Student Council

What is Student Council?

Student Council provides opportunities for students in grades 6-8 who possess leadership abilities and public speaking skills to further develop those skills.

How can students be a part of the CTB Student Council?

Potential student representatives apply for membership during the first full week of school after attending an interest meeting.

During the 2023-24 school year, the interest meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12th. There are two interest meetings that day: one at 7 - 7:15 am and a second at 2:05 - 2:30 pm. Students receive applications to join the Student Council at the interest meeting.

Students who apply for membership receive their notice of acceptance via email. During the 2023-2024 school year, acceptance letters will be sent to student applicants’ emails on Friday afternoon, September 15th.

When does the CTB Student Council meet?

Membership is an involved commitment: the Council meets 2-3 a month, after school, for one hour.

The 2023-2024 meeting calendar is HERE.

If a member is also scheduled to participate with another club or with a CTB sport at the same time, the member is responsible for coordinating with all coaches and advisors to make time for both activities.

What are the responsibilities of CTB Student Council members?

Members provide service to the school as well as the surrounding community by voting to carry out various fundraisers, service projects, and events.

Public speaking is a major part of the program as student representatives are expected to communicate with teachers and classes on a weekly basis.

What is the framework of the CTB Student Council?

Elected eighth grade students serve as the Executive Board and elections for these positions occur in the spring for the upcoming year.

In addition, other leadership positions within the club for students, such as Speaker of the Council, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Head Representatives, are filled by an in-council vote during the fall.

There is a moderator, also known as an advisor, who coordinates meetings, service, and projects for the Student Council. Ms. Marotta, the moderator, is also an 8th grade ELA teacher at CTB. You can reach her at [email protected].

Event Information?

The first meeting of the year will be on Monday, September 18th at 2:05-2:54 pm in the GAM Center.
